Exploring Cost Sharing for 4BR Rentals in Toronto

I'm looking into renting a 3 or 4-bedroom apartment with friends to reduce living costs in Toronto. The idea of a group house rental seems appealing, especially for professionals. Has anyone experienced with splitting costs this way? Is renting a larger unit really cheaper than going solo?
