Toronto moving companies charging extra after quoting do they all do this

I just moved from a condo in North York and the crew ended up charging over $200 more than the initial quote! It was the end of the month, and they took way longer than expected. Is this a common thing with Toronto movers? How do I avoid surprise fees next time?
