How much do movers in toronto charge for a tiny studio move

I just moved from a small townhouse in Etobicoke and hired movers for my studio. They quoted me $400 for a one-truck load, but the final bill ended up being $750 because they took over five hours! Did anyone else experience surprise charges like this? Any tips for future moves?
