How can anyone afford $2400 for a 1BR in Toronto now?

I’ve been searching for apartments in Toronto and the average rent for a 1BR has skyrocketed to $2400! With my salary at $60k, I’m spending nearly 60% of my income on rent. Everyone I talk to feels completely priced out. Is this really the new normal in our city?
