Are post-dated cheques still a thing? Can I pay rent by e-transfer?

Seriously, is the landlord really demanding post-dated cheques? In this day and age, can’t I just e-transfer my rent? It’s a hassle to deal with old-school cheques when there are so many modern payment methods available. What's the deal with insisting on cheques?
