Why is finding a rental in Toronto so impossible?!

Another rent increase, seriously? I can't believe landlords think it's okay to ask $2800 for a bachelor unit! Who are they fooling? Just got outbid again, how is anyone supposed to afford this? I'm so sick of viewing 15 places only to have them taken within hours. This market is unbearable!
