Help me decide: Should I move to this sketchy area for cheaper rent?

I'm considering a cheaper apartment in a sketchy part of town—$1500 for a 1BR. On one hand, I save money, but the building has security issues and I've heard of break-ins. I currently pay $2100 for a safer place but want to save for a home. I’m torn if the risk is worth the savings.
