Thinking about safety in Toronto neighborhoods?

I'm looking to move to a one-bedroom in Toronto and safety is a big concern for me. How secure are the buildings in different neighborhoods, especially regarding bike theft and break-ins? Any insights on feeling safe walking around at night would be appreciated!
