Commuting from Scarborough vs Etobicoke - which is better for downtown workers?

Got a job offer downtown starting in October and trying to decide between two areas for better value. Found decent 1BR options in both Scarborough (near Kennedy station) and Etobicoke (near Royal York). The Scarborough place is $300 cheaper but the commute looks longer. Etobicoke seems faster but pricier. Anyone have experience commuting from these areas to downtown? How reliable is transit, especially in winter? Which would you choose for work-life balance?
