Surprise charges from movers on my toronto move are these normal

I'm moving from my walk-up in Little Italy next week and just found out my movers tacked on an extra $300 for 'large item handling.' Is this a common practice? I thought we agreed on a flat rate! I'm already stressed about packing and transferring utilities—now this?!
