The chaos of moving day: elevator broke and stairs became my enemy

Worst moving day ever! The elevator in my building broke down just as the movers arrived. We ended up hauling all my stuff up 12 flights of stairs and I thought I was going to die halfway up! Anyone else have horror stories like this? How do you survive the chaos?
