Shocked by Toronto's Apartment Parking Costs!

Has anyone else noticed the insane parking costs in Toronto? I just found out that monthly parking fees are skyrocketing, with many places charging over $200! Is street parking a viable alternative, or are these rates really worth it? How much for a spot, and is it even worth paying for parking?
