Renting in Toronto: Need Help with Neighborhoods & Costs

Hi everyone! I'm new to Toronto & looking for a rental. Is $2400 too much for a 1BD in Liberty Village? Are Parkdale & Queen West safe? Also, should I pay a month's rent as a deposit? Feeling lost with leases here - any tips would be appreciated!
