How safe is the Kensington Market area for renters?

I'm fed up with my current landlord and the never-ending building issues. I'm looking to move to Kensington Market for its culture and amenities, but I need to know about neighborhood safety. Are there crime concerns in the area? I want to feel secure in my new home!
