Lost out again—how are people affording over asking rent?

I just got outbid again on a rental, and it's getting exhausting. I offered $300 over asking, and someone came in even higher. How are people managing to pay so much? It feels like I’m in a never-ending competition with no clear rules. Is this normal now in Toronto?
