Thinking of moving to the Beaches - worth it for families?

I'm looking into renting in the Beaches and would love to hear thoughts from those with kids. How are the schools in the area? I've heard it's a bit pricier, but the parks and waterfront are amazing for children. Is safety a big concern here, or have things improved recently?
