Confused about assignment vs sublet options!

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out the difference between assignment and subletting my rental in Toronto. What's the best way to get out of my lease early? Is one option more permanent than the other? Also, do I need my landlord's approval for either? Thanks for any help!
