Pet-friendly apartments Toronto 2025 - dog policies, deposits, and best neighborhoods for pet owners

Finally ready to get a dog but apartment hunting in Toronto with pets seems impossible! Most places either say "no pets" or have crazy restrictions and deposits. For those who successfully found pet-friendly apartments in Toronto, what should I expect? Are pet deposits legal in Ontario or is that a red flag? What neighborhoods are most pet-friendly in terms of both available rentals and lifestyle (dog parks, vet access, etc.)? I've heard Leslieville and Beaches are good for dogs but are there affordable options there? Also considering a medium-sized rescue dog - do landlords typically have breed or size restrictions I should know about?
