Is Toronto really safe at night? Asking for a friend!

I've been hearing a lot about landlords luring tenants with offers like free rent. But how safe are neighborhoods really? I'm concerned about bike thefts and break-ins. Can anyone share their experiences about feeling secure after dark or in certain buildings?
