Special Assessment Worries for Renters in Condos

I just heard about a special assessment affecting our condo, and I'm really worried. Are renters responsible for these extra costs, like higher condo fees? Plus, my landlord is raising rent—can they do that because of the assessment? I'm considering leaving if it gets too expensive.
