Is $2400 for a 1BR the new normal in Toronto?

I can't believe the average rent for a 1BR in Toronto hit $2400 this year. Just three years ago, my friend was paying $1500 for the same place. With my salary of $60k, spending nearly 60% of my income on rent feels unbearable. How is anyone affording it anymore?
