Average rent hit $2400 - Is this the new normal for Toronto?

I’m shocked that the average rent for a 1BR in Toronto has hit $2400. How is anyone affording this? I just lost my 5th apartment to a bidding war where the landlord accepted $300 over asking. The rental market feels completely broken, and I’m left wondering where to go next.
