Toronto Housing Prices: Why So Expensive?

I've been digging into the housing market and can't believe how pricey Toronto is! A studio here can cost more than in NYC—how does that even make sense? Even Vancouver seems more reasonable by comparison! Is the premium justified or have we just lost the plot on affordability?
