Can I negotiate rent down in 2025's soft market?

With the rental market softening in 2025 and apartments sitting empty for weeks, I’m curious if I can offer below the asking price. It seems like there are no more bidding wars, so is it reasonable to negotiate rent down? How flexible are landlords in this new environment?
