City of Toronto & Airbnb

I’ve been looking into booking an Airbnb in Toronto for a few weeks, but I keep seeing mixed info about what’s allowed and what’s not. Is it true that Airbnb rentals have to be in the host’s primary residence? Does that mean most condo Airbnbs are technically illegal? Also wondering if the city actually enforces these rules. Are there fines, or do people still rent out full condos under the radar? Trying to figure out if it’s safer to book a hotel or if short-term Airbnb rentals are still common around downtown. Anyone here actually hosting or renting recently who can share how strict the city really is?
