With rental prices getting crazier every year, I think it's important for all Toronto renters to understand our legal rights. I've been researching tenant laws and wanted to share what I've learned:
**Rent Control in Ontario (2025):**
- Most buildings built before November 2018 are rent-controlled
- Annual increases capped at guideline amount (2.5% for 2025)
- Buildings after Nov 2018 have no rent control between tenants
**Your Rights Include:**
- 24-hour notice for landlord entry (except emergencies)
- Right to reasonable enjoyment of your rental
- Protection from illegal eviction
- Right to have essential services (heat, water, electricity)
**Resources:**
- Landlord Tenant Board (LTB) for disputes
- Legal Aid Ontario for free advice
- Tenant Duty Counsel at LTB hearings
I'm not a lawyer but these are things every renter should know. Anyone have experience dealing with the LTB? What other rights should new tenants be aware of?
