Is renters insurance worth it? Seeking opinions!

I'm looking into renters insurance in Toronto and wondering if it's actually worth the money. What are the cheapest options out there? Have any of you had to file claims? My landlord is requiring insurance, but I want to know what it covers and if it’s a good investment for shared living.
