How do people afford $2400 for a 1BR in Toronto?

The average rent for a 1-bedroom in Toronto has skyrocketed to $2400, making it nearly impossible for many to afford. I've been searching for a place under $2000 and feel defeated seeing even Jane & Finch hitting $2200 now. How is anyone managing this housing crisis?
