Toronto Housing Prices Shock: Why So Expensive?

I'm seriously shocked by the housing prices in Toronto! How is it that New York City can be cheaper than Toronto? Even when you compare it to other Canadian cities like Vancouver, it just makes no sense. Are we really justified in paying these outrageous rents? What is driving this madness?
