So tired of losing great rentals to higher bids! What to do?

I'm stuck in this frustrating rental bidding war in Toronto! Just lost another apartment because someone offered way more than I was comfortable with. How do I navigate these sealed bids? I really value location & quality, but how high is too high? Any tips would be appreciated!
