Anyone else getting outbid on Bloor West rentals? What's your strategy?

I've been looking for a 1-bedroom in Bloor West Village for 3 months now. Every decent place under $2800 has multiple people offering above asking. Last week someone offered $200/month extra on a $2600 place and I couldn't compete. Has anyone found success with a different strategy? Should I be offering first and last upfront plus more? This market is insane.
