Parking Costs Are Insane in Toronto!

Has anyone else been shocked by the parking fees in Toronto? I've seen monthly parking fees soaring to $300 or more! Is there any street parking alternative that doesn’t break the bank? Is it really worth paying for a spot when costs are this high?
