Why is One-Bedroom Rent Skyrocketing in Toronto?!

I’m shocked! I found one-bedroom apartments in Toronto costing 30-50% more than my current place. How can the same building charge different rates? It’s maddening to see turnover rent spikes where new tenants pay so much more. What gives? Is there any rationale behind this pricing madness?
