Anyone commute from Scarborough downtown?

I'm curious how folks manage the commute from Scarborough to downtown. I’ve been contemplating a job downtown but the idea of spending an hour on the subway each way makes me hesitate. Is it as tough as it sounds, or are there some hidden gems for quicker travel?
