Is rent eating up half my income a normal struggle?

I'm stressing over my rent. With a salary of $60k, how can I even consider paying $2400/month? The 30% rule seems impossible in Toronto, and I'm worried about finding compatible roommates. Why is affordable housing so hard to find? Anyone else feeling this way?
