Need advice on renting in Leslieville on a tight budget!

I've just graduated and landed an entry-level job, but my salary isn’t great. I’m looking at places in Leslieville since I've heard it's a nice neighborhood. What's a realistic budget? Are $2000/month apartments decent or are they mostly dumps? Any tips for first-time renters would be appreciated!
