Curious about pre-con rentals but unsure about risks

I'm intrigued by the idea of renting a pre-construction condo in Toronto, but I can’t help but worry about potential construction delays and other risks. What happens if the building isn't ready on time? I’m interested in the benefits but cautious about getting locked into something unfinished.
