Worried about special assessments and how they affect renters

I’ve heard there’s a special assessment coming up, and I’m anxious. Do renters pay for these fees? If condo fees go up, could that lead to a rent increase? I'm concerned that some might even end up leaving due to these unexpected costs. How do others handle this situation?
