Why is Toronto housing so shockingly expensive?

I can't believe how ridiculously high Toronto housing prices are! Compared to cities like NYC or even Vancouver, it seems unjustified. Why is it that $1 million barely gets you a condo here, while a similar amount can buy a decent home in cities across Canada and the US? Makes no sense!
