Is rent really supposed to take 30% of my income?

I just moved to Toronto and it's stressing me out! How can rent be so high that it feels like I’m spending half my income? The 30% rule seems impossible. If I make $60k, is paying $2400 for rent realistic? Why does rent vs. income math never add up?
