How do people even afford to live in Toronto anymore?

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can afford to live in Toronto these days. With rent skyrocketing, especially near TTC subway lines, it seems only rich people can make it work. What income is needed? How do others manage? Is there some secret I’m missing? It’s all so confusing.
