Is a pet deposit legal in Ontario?

My landlord is asking for a pet deposit, but I've heard that in Ontario, pet deposits might be illegal. Can they really charge me for having a pet? I’m also confused by the difference between pet fees and deposits. What exactly can landlords charge for pets around here, like pet rent or other fees?
