Confusion about Assignment vs Subletting Options

I'm trying to understand the difference between an assignment and a sublet. If I want to leave my rental in Toronto early, which option is better for getting out of my lease permanently? Also, what are the landlord's approval requirements for each? Feeling lost with the deposit limits too.
