Finding Legit Landlords Near Toronto Universities

Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for student housing close to my university this coming September, but I’ve heard so many scary stories about scams. What tips do you have for verifying a landlord’s legitimacy? Also, how do you normally find trustworthy roommates? Any advice would be appreciated!
