Why is rent $800 more for the same type of apartment?

I can’t believe how much rent has skyrocketed in Toronto! I’m finding that prices for new tenants are 30-50% higher than what I currently pay. Why is the same building charging different prices? It feels like there’s a massive turnover rent spike that’s just leaving us old tenants in the dust!
