What’s the vibe in the Danforth area for families?

I’ve been looking into renting on the Danforth, and it seems like a great spot for families. Lots of parks nearby, and school ratings are solid. I love the sense of community, but how’s the safety nowadays? Anyone have insight on the local playgroups or kid-friendly amenities?
