How do people even afford to live in Toronto?

I genuinely don't understand how anyone survives in Toronto anymore. What kind of income do you need to make it here? Is it only rich people who can afford this city now? I'm looking for short-term rentals for 3-6 months, but it's so confusing. How do others manage this housing crisis?
