How safe is my neighborhood for evening strolls?

I've been living in Toronto for a while, but I can't shake the feeling of unease when walking around at night. Are there particular areas where people feel more secure? Any tips on what to look out for or ways to boost safety around buildings? Always good to hear from fellow renters!
