Confused about first and last month deposit rules in Ontario?

So, I'm a bit confused about this whole deposit situation in Ontario. Is it legal for landlords to ask for a damage deposit? What's the deal with first and last month rent? How much can they actually ask for? I heard something about getting back the last month, but what are the limits? Help!
