Need help finding the right neighborhood for a career change

I'm considering a job switch and might relocate within Toronto. I'm looking at areas like Leslieville and The Annex. What's the vibe like in those neighborhoods during winter? Also, how much should I expect to pay for a decent one-bedroom? Any other recommendations for good spots? Thanks!
